SUMMARY:Woodbridge Farmstead Open House
DESCRIPTION:The 1830s-era farmhouse and grounds welcome visitors\, young\, old\, and in between! Visit for 10 minutes or 2 hours. Take a guided tour of the house and a self-guided tour through our 18th-century barn. Check out the displays inside our Visitor Center Barn showing some of the history of Manchester Green. The Farmstead committee organizes events on many of the open house days — farm animal visits\, antique farm tool expert\, duck races\, and holiday festivities. The Farmstead is located near the intersection of East Middle Turnpike and Woodbridge Street. Visitors can park in the Woodbridge backyard by entering from Woodbridge Street near Lawton Road\, or at the municipal lot behind the Senior Center or along the street between the Senior Center and the farmstead itself. From the street\, walk to the back yard using the grass driveway between the house and Woodbridge Pizza. The Woodbridge Farmstead is on the National Register of Historic Places. The farm was donated to the Manchester Historical Society by Raymond and Thelma Woodbridge in 1998. Open houses are usually held 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Sundays of the month\, through October (except May\, when holidays fall on those dates and we’re open the first and third Sundays). Free\, donations welcome.

SUMMARY:"Harmonies From Their Homelands" music and history
DESCRIPTION:Welcoming Entwyned\, three professional musicians presenting a music and history program\, a special concert celebrating our country’s 250th birthday. When the explorers and colonists arrived in the Americas\, the music of their countries was an integral part of the culture that they brought with them. Each country had its own musical expression\, instrumentation\, and performance customs. Slaves also brought their distinctive rhythms and music\, which has impacted American music to this day. As these diverse populations began their new lives in America\, their sounds and expressions began to blend with those from other countries. It was the birth of countless American musical genres.  Entwyned will perform period music from the early colonists’ countries and early America. This concert/lecture will also provide relevant historical information and visual images from the times as we learn about how musical imports shaped the American musical landscape. More about Entwyned on their website. We are requesting donations at the door for this very special program and fundraiser. Light refreshments will be served.
